The winter of 2023-2024 was another busy one here on the farm. We had a horticulture student here doing the vast majority of the detailed pruning on the farm and they were a great help to us! We also cut down the first two rows on the west side of the field to start their re-growth. Over the next several winters we are planning to cut down 4-5 rows a winter so that we can get all the plants in some stage of re-growth. This will definitely help keep the plants people size for easier picking and make the berries more plentiful too! At the time of writing this in early May the blueberry bushes are in full bloom and the bees are hard at work. This fall we plan to begin the installation of a sub-surface drip irrigation system in the blueberries. This will help to provide more even moisture to the plants and keep them healthier and producing berries that taste great and are good for you even when the weather turns hot and dry. And talking about great tasting berries that are good for you… we have changed our certification to a system that we feel suits us much better and we think in the long haul it is better all the way around. Read on to learn a little more.

We are now a CERTIFIED NATURALLY GROWN farm. What that means is that our blueberries are grown without the use of synthetic chemicals or fertilizers and are free of GMO’s. CERTIFIED NATURALLY GROWN is a grass roots alternative to certified organic. Please check out their website and you can find us on their and read about our farming practices too.

FOR THE KIDS: We love to see the kids out here picking with their parents or grandparents. Come out and find Grandma Blueberry who stands out as the tallest blueberry bush in the field. We haven’t measured her yet for her 2024 reading. We will have rocks painted with blueberries again this year-find one and win a prize. This year we will have  youth sized t-shirts for sale that say “I picked berries at Bridge Avenue Berries”.

The season’s short!
